JOSE GUIDOTE REYES
Managing Director
Jojo Reyes began his lighting career in New York City in 1984.
It was during his studies at the New York University School
of Film that fascinated him to the use of lighting as a powerful
medium to enhance space and form. He joined Universe Stage
Lighting, a major Broadway lighting firm, in May 1985. While
at Universe, Jojo became instrumental in introducing the firm
to the Asian market, specifically Japan and Korea, in the
mid-1980’s. This brought about lighting projects to
include among others the Tokyo Broadcasting System, the Seoul
Institute for the Performing Arts and Tokyo Disneyland. The
firm’s heavy involvement in Japanese lighting projects
in Asia brought them prestigious architectural projects in
New York City such as the SONY Building, SONY/Leows Cinema
and the color changing effects of the Coffen Tower at the
Empire State Building. Jojo stayed on with Universe Stage
Lighting until December 1994 when he decided to return to
his homeland and pursue his career in the Philippines where
a demand for lighting services, design, application and proper
execution was still in its infancy stage.
Jojo migrated to the United States in 1983 to pursue his studies in Film Making &
Broadcasting at the New York University School of Film. He graduated from De
La Salle University in 1978 with a Bachelors Degree in Communication Arts, major
in Film & Broadcasting.
Jojo is married to Imelda Borromeo Cancio, an Interior Designer, and has six
children.
